Hello,
My name is Brenda Rueda. I have a master's degree in psychology and another in education from Sul Ross University. I am passionate about helping those struggling with mental health. I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, helping children, teens, and adults. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression and OCD.
I provide trauma-informed, attachment-focused therapy for adults. Many relational struggles are not character flaws. They are adaptations- ways you learned to survive, stay connected, or protect yourself. Together, we slow down enough to understand those adaptations and gently shift what no longer serves you. This work is intentional. It requires honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to look beneath the surface. And it creates lasting change.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with nearly 30 years of experience supporting individuals across a wide range of mental health needs. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Mississippi College, graduating with Special Distinction. My background includes on‐site work in psychiatric hospitals providing diagnostic assessments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, as well as extensive outpatient experience addressing concerns such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, substance use, trauma, adjustment disorders, and crisis intervention.
My clinical work also includes serving as a crisis counselor with the American Red Cross in Dallas during Hurricane Katrina, supporting displaced individuals and families through acute stress, grief, and major life disruption. In addition to my direct clinical roles, I spent nearly 25 years in managed care conducting nationwide clinical reviews for psychiatric and substance‐use facilities, strengthening my ability to assess complex cases, understand treatment systems, and advocate for appropriate levels of care.
While I have experience providing marital and family therapy, my primary focus is working with individuals who are seeking clarity, stability, emotional healing, and long‐term growth. I currently offer outpatient therapy and facilitate recovery‐focused groups in the Plano area, providing virtual care to clients throughout Texas.
My therapeutic approach integrates person‐centered interventions, motivational interviewing, reality‐based strategies, and—when desired—Christ‐centered counseling. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and belief systems, offering faith‐integrated care only when it aligns with the client’s preferences. My goal is to provide a supportive, grounded, and collaborative space where individuals can heal, grow, and build lasting change.

My journey of self-discovery has led me here and now. As most people do, we have hopes, dreams, and plans for our lives and aim for fulfillment. We do not always anticipate some of the obstacles that suddenly require a helping hand, a steppingstone, or a bridge. If you are currently experiencing any such challenge in your life, please reach out for help and support. I can provide counseling for individuals and the entire family. If you or your family is being impacted by addiction, relationship challenges, daily life stressors and disruptions and mental health concerns including depression and anxiety, your time might be now to receive some help.
I am skillful in helping families target the core issues that they are working through, whether driven by addiction or underlying mental health or dynamic factors. I employ strength based, cognitive behavioral techniques and a range of other modalities to achieve outlined goals. My role would be to listen, support, guide and to be transparent at all times.
Fear often holds us back from making a change or accepting help. Facing my fears has carved this amazing opportunity for me to help you. My years in the field has deepened my compassion for helping others of different cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I am inspired by those I helped on their journey and would love to do the same for you.
I earned my Master of Science in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003. I had the privilege of starting in the field of sexual abuse/violence, which began my real-life education. I've continued my study of trauma, and in family dynamics. This continues to shape my growth. I have years of experience working in psychiatric hospitals with those struggling with severe mental illness. The one thing that I've learned and want to share is this: people can (and do!) get better.
