Top therapists in Texas accepting new patients
With a doctorate in developmental psychology, I bring both expertise and a down-to-earth approach to helping people find clarity and direction when life feels overwhelming. Originally from the Midwest, I’ve called Texas home for three decades, where I enjoy family life, yoga, travel, and the challenge of keeping up with too many pets. I bring warmth, experience, and a touch of humor to therapy, walking alongside clients as they navigate growth and change with compassion and perspective.
Life is a continuous process of becoming, yet it's easy to feel a disconnect between where you are and where you truly want to be. If you're overwhelmed by intense emotions, feeling stuck, or constantly questioning your worth, please know that your feelings are valid, and that you deserve a space to process them.
I bring both clinical depth and lived experience to the therapeutic space. My academic training in the PhD program in Counseling at the University of North Texas gave me the foundational tools for my practice; my experience as an immigrant parent of two young children is what refined them. Navigating these overlapping worlds has given me a real understanding of the mental load of adulthood: the constant sense of being pulled in a dozen directions at once. In our sessions, I offer a warm, grounded space where you can set down the pressure to have it all figured out and focus on what you actually need to feel supported.
Hi, I’m Brittany! I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Family Life Educator based in Richmond, TX. I specialize in helping women navigate complex family systems, heal from relational trauma, and do the deeply personal work of figuring out who they are outside of the roles they were handed. Come unfiltered.
Welcome, and thank you for being here! My name is Briana Vielma and I am a mental health therapist based in Laredo, Texas.
I truly believe taking care of our mental health is the foundation for overall health and wellness. By coming to therapy, you are prioritizing your health and well-being, and that is a courageous step.
I have experience working with children, teens, and adults of all ages. My background includes working in community mental health settings, where I was able to work with people in all stages of life and different mental health concerns. This included anxiety and panic disorders, mood disorders, PTSD and trauma related disorders, relationship issues, parenting stress, adjustment disorders, chronic stress and burnout.
I also worked at a residential treatment center that was focused on treating substance use disorders, providing individual and group therapy. I found both of these experiences extremely rewarding, and it was a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their journey.
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I believe everyone deserves a safe space to be heard, supported, and understood. Reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, mood disorders, and other mental health concerns, and I strive to create a warm, relaxed, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and focused on helping each person find balance, healing, and emotional wellness at their own pace.
I have a passion for helping people navigate life's challenges. Seeking help can feel like a big step, but it is also a powerful one. I offer a collaborative and nonjudgemental space for discovering strengths and with helping you feel empowered.
My primary focus is the restoration of the nervous system. I specialize in supporting recovery from complex, relational, and medical trauma. Because trauma impacts every layer of how we function, my practice also centers on the deeply connected challenges that come with it—including severe anxiety, chronic stress, mood fluctuations, complex personality patterns, and the profound journey of grief and loss.
I have worked with clients from ages 3 through 80 and with individuals, couples, and families. With that breadth of experience, very little shocks or surprises me, and I am able to develop an individualized approach for each client, combining therapy modalities that play to my strengths as a counselor and that are helpful for the people I’m working with.
Three principles shape all the counseling I do:
- Counseling should be efficient. Counseling has significant costs in time and money. I think the benefits far outweigh the costs but when I can give you the benefits while helping you save on the costs I will do that. So I choose approaches to counseling (like EMDR and EFT) that generally work more quickly. That being said, I don’t want to you to feel better for three to six months and then need counseling again because we only worked on symptom relief and didn’t bring healing to the underlying causes. That doesn’t seem very efficient to me. So my goal is to provide as long-lasting and complete help as possible in as little time as possible.
- The client is always in charge. People are complex and come with years of history that I can never know all of. I know a lot of things but you will always be the one who decides what you want to get out of counseling, how we work towards that goal, whether or not what we’re doing seems to be working, and when we’re done.
- Change and health happen through relationships. The work we do in counseling will touch on how your relationships impact your health. No matter what you come in for, there are always relational implications of change and relational factors that contribute to whatever it is that you came to counseling to change. Change can only happen in counseling because of our relationship. It’s my responsibility to make our relationship a place where you feel heard and accepted.
Healing begins the moment you feel truly seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and walk alongside you as an active partner in your mental health journey.
